Biological Activity
Description
FOS Protein, Human (His, Myc) is the recombinant human-derived FOS, expressed by E. coli , with N-10*His, C-Myc labeled tag.
Background
c-Fos is a nuclear phosphoprotein that forms a tight but non-covalently linked complex with the JUN/AP-1 transcription factor. In the heterodimer, the basic regions of FOS and JUN/AP-1 each interact with symmetrical DNA half-sites. Upon TGF-beta activation, it forms a multimeric SMAD3/SMAD4/JUN/FOS complex at the AP1/SMAD-binding site to regulate TGF-beta-mediated signaling. It plays a critical role in regulating the development of cells destined to form and maintain the skeleton and is thought to be important in signal transduction, cell proliferation, and differentiation. In growing cells, c-Fos activates phospholipid synthesis, likely by activating CDS1 and PI4K2A, an activity that requires Tyr dephosphorylation and association with the endoplasmic reticulum.
