Description

Background
L1CAM protein, a neural cell adhesion molecule, plays a pivotal role in the dynamics of cell adhesion and the generation of transmembrane signals at tyrosine kinase receptors. Its involvement is particularly crucial during brain development, where it contributes to multiple processes, including neuronal migration, axonal growth and fasciculation, and synaptogenesis. In the mature brain, L1CAM continues to exert its influence on the dynamics of neuronal structure and function, participating in synaptic plasticity. Additionally, L1CAM interacts with SHTN1, with the interaction occurring in axonal growth cones. Furthermore, it engages with isoform 2 of BSG, emphasizing its versatility in molecular interactions that impact various aspects of neural development and function.
