Maintained at telomeres throughout the cell cycle, TRF1 acts as an inhibitor of telomerase, playing a crucial role in limiting the elongation of individual chromosome ends. The protein structure features a C-terminal Myb motif, a dimerization domain near its N-terminus, and an acidic N-terminus. Multiple transcripts of this gene result from alternative splicing. TRF1 displays ubiquitous expression, with notable levels detected in the brain (RPKM 11.2), ovary (RPKM 9.8), and 25 other tissues.
