4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid
Based on 2 publication(s) in Google Scholar
4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid (MTOB) is an ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor. 4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid reduces ornithine decarboxylase protein levels and enzymatic activity. 4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid is formed in cells in the Met salvage pathway from methylthioadenosine. 4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid inhibits cancer cells growth. 4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid can be used for the research of cancer.

4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid (0.2-2 mM; 24 h) represses ornithine decarboxylase activity in MTAP-deleted MCF-7 breast adenocarcinoma and MIA PaCa-2 pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells[1].
4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid (3 days) inhibits HeLa epithelial cell growth with an IC50 of 1.6 mM[2].
4-Methylthio-2-oxobutanoic acid (200-800 μM; 8 h) does not induce DNA fragmentation and DNA double-strand breaks in BAF3 murine lymphoid cells[2].
MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.
