Background
-
Function
ACAA1 is responsible for the thiolytic cleavage of straight chain 3-keto fatty acyl-CoAs (3-oxoacyl-CoAs). Plays an important role in fatty acid peroxisomal beta-oxidation. Catalyzes the cleavage of short, medium, long, and very long straight chain 3-oxoacyl-CoAs[1][2].

Subcellular Localization
Peroxisome
-
Expression
Induction:Peroxisomal thiolase is markedly induced (at the level of transcription) by various hypolipidemic compounds in parallel with the other two enzymes of the peroxisomal beta-oxidation system -
Isoforms & Post-Translational Modification
P09110 has 2 isomers: P09110-1: 44292 Da (predicted); P09110-2: 34665 Da (predicted).
-
Subunit
Homodimer (Ref.16). Interacts (via PTS2-type peroxisomal targeting signal region) with PEX7; leading to its translocation into peroxisomes (PubMed:22057399, PubMed:25538232)
