Background
-
Function
Cytokeratin 19 is involved in the organization of myofibers. Together with KRT8, helps to link the contractile apparatus to dystrophin at the costameres of striated muscle
-
Expression
Tissue_specificity:It is expressed in specific basal keratinocyte regions of the deep outer root sheath of hair follicles. It is also found in sweat glands and mammary ducts and secretory cells, bile ducts, gastrointestinal tract, bladder urothelial tissue, oral epithelium, esophagus, and cervical external epithelium (protein level) . It is expressed in specific regions of epidermal basal cells, nipple epidermis, and hair follicles. It is also found in some wall cells of the human umbilical vein and arteries, as well as in the smooth muscle of umbilical vessels. In structures containing dystrophin and spectroscopylin, muscle fibers aggregate in sarcomeres within the sarcoplasm of the sarcolemma. -
Subunit
Heterotetramer of two type I and two type II keratins. Interacts with PNN and the actin-binding domain of DMD. Interacts with HCV core protein
