SDSL catalyzes the pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent dehydrative deamination of L-threonine and L-serine to ammonia and alpha-ketobutyrate and pyruvate, respectively. Also exhibits racemase activity towards L-glutamate and D-glutamate[1][2].
