Definition:

Chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) is one of the proteolytic systems that contributes to degradation of intracellular proteins in lysosomes. In the process of CMA, the proteins undergo degradation by this autophagic pathway are selected individually through a recognition motif in their amino acid sequences.
