Cobalt(II) ions probe 1 (Compound L) is a fluorescent sensor for Co2+ detecting in biological environments. Cobalt(II) ions probe 1 can selectively bind with Co2+ in the presence of other metal ions (Ex: 380 nm).

Biological Activity
Cobalt(II) ions probe 1 nearly emits no fluorescence in solution (“off” state). Upon the addition of Co2+, the coordination between Co2+ and Cobalt(II) ions probe 1 restrains the PET and ICT processes, directly leading to a strong local-state emission presenting at blue band (“on” state)[1].
