(-)-Jasmonoyl-L-isoleucine ((-)-JA-L-Ile) is an inactive hormone and jasmonic acid-amino acid conjugate, as well as a stereoisomer of (+)-7-iso-JA-L-Ile. (-)-Jasmonoyl-L-isoleucine fails to promote the formation of the COI1-JAZ protein complex. (-)-Jasmonoyl-L-isoleucine does not induce jasmonic acid-dependent phenotypic responses in Arabidopsis seedlings, including root growth inhibition and anthocyanin accumulation.

Biological Activity
(-)-Jasmonoyl-L-isoleucine (0.5-5 μM; 1 h) fails to promote the COI1-JAZ9 interaction in extracts from Arabidopsis 35S:COI1-flag plants, while partial activity is restored after base-induced epimerization generates a small amount of (+)-7-iso-JA-L-Ile[1].
(-)-Jasmonoyl-L-isoleucine mediates weak physical interaction between COI1 and JAZ3/JAZ9 proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana, but its activity is far lower than that of the (+)-7-iso-JA-L-Ile isomer in cell-free pull-down assays and yeast two-hybrid assays[2].
