Background
TEAD2 is a transcription factor that plays a key role in the Hippo signaling pathway, which controls organ size and suppresses tumors by restricting proliferation and promoting apoptosis. The pathway's core involves a kinase cascade where MST1/MST2, complexed with SAV1, phosphorylates and activates LATS1/2 in complex with MOB1, leading to the phosphorylation and inactivation of the oncoproteins YAP1 and WWTR1/TAZ. TEAD2 mediates the gene expression of YAP1 and WWTR1/TAZ, regulating cell proliferation, migration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) induction. It binds to SPH and GT-IIC 'enhansons' (5'-GTGGAATGT-3') and may be involved in neural development gene regulation. Additionally, TEAD2 binds to the M-CAT motif.
