Piroheptine blocks the high-affinity dopamine transport system, prevents MPP + uptake into dopaminergic neurons, and exerts anticholinergic activity. Piroheptine completely prevents MPTP (HY-W114750)-induced loss of striatal dopamine and DOPAC, and increases striatal dopamine levels.
