Background
Function:Component of the nuclear pore complex (NPC), a complex required for the trafficking across the nuclear envelope. Functions as a scaffolding element in the nuclear phase of the NPC essential for normal nucleocytoplasmic transport of proteins and mRNAs. Involved in the quality control and retention of unspliced mRNAs in the nucleus; in association with TPR, regulates the nuclear export of unspliced mRNA species bearing constitutive transport element (CTE) in a NXF1- and KHDRBS1-independent manner. Mediates TPR anchoring to the nuclear membrane at NPC. The repeat-containing domain may be involved in anchoring other components of the NPC to the pore membrane. Possible DNA-binding subunit of the nuclear pore complex (NPC); (Microbial infection) Interacts with HIV-1 caspid protein P24 and thereby promotes the integration of the virus in the nucleus of non-dividing cells (in vitro); (Microbial infection) Binds HIV-2 protein vpx and thereby promotes the nuclear translocation of the lentiviral genome (in vitro)
Subcellular Localization:Nucleus; Nucleus membrane; Nucleus, nuclear pore complex
Isoforms & Post-Translational Modification:P49790 has 3 isomers: P49790-1: 153938 Da (predicted); P49790-2: 149396 Da (predicted); P49790-3: 157338 Da (predicted).
Phosphorylated in interphase, hyperphosphorylated during mitosis. May play a role in the reversible disassembly of the nuclear pore complex during mitosis (By similarity);Proteolytically degraded after poliovirus (PV) infection; degradation is partial and NCP- and TPR-binding domains withstand degradation;O-glycosylated during cytokinesis at sites identical or close to phosphorylation sites, this interferes with the phosphorylation status
Subunit:Part of the nuclear pore complex (NPC) (PubMed:15229283). Interacts with TPR (via coiled coil region); the interaction is direct and provides a link between the core structure and the TPR-containing nuclear basket of the nuclear pore complex (NPC) (PubMed:12802065, PubMed:20133940). Interacts with HIKESHI (PubMed:22541429). Interacts with SENP2. Interacts with XPO5 (PubMed:11777942). Interacts with RAN; the interaction occurs in a GTP- and GDP-independent manner (By similarity). Interacts with MCM3AP isoform GANP; this interaction is required for GANP localization at the nuclear pore complex (PubMed:20005110, PubMed:23652018). Interacts with MAPK1 (PubMed:22253824)

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
