Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium
Based on 1 Customer Validation
Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium is an iron ion chelator that serves as a colorimetric reagent for iron ion detection. Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium forms stable, strong complexes with Fe2+ and Fe3+, and each complex exhibits reversible redox behavior. Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium can act as a ligand to form water-soluble ruthenium catalysts, which promote the hydrogenation of the ketone group in levulinic acid to produce γ-valerolactone. When Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium and its iron complex are incorporated into a polymer-modified electrode, rapid color change from red to transparent occurs during potential cycling.

Biological Activity
Description
In Vitro
Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium (BPhDS) modifies the water‑soluble RuCl3·3H2O catalyst, which quantitatively converts levulinic acid to γ‑valerolactone in aqueous media[1].
Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium modifies the water‑soluble RuCl3·3H2O catalyst, which remains stable and retains high activity (TOF of 2370 h⁻¹) during continuous aqueous‑phase hydrogenation of levulinic acid to γ‑valerolactone, and its activity increases as temperature rises[1].
Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium forms insoluble polymer complexes with MPVP, MPEI and PEMA. Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium‑containing complexes can be coated onto platinum disk electrodes and SnO2 plate electrodes to fabricate Fe2+‑BPS2- complex‑modified electrodes. Bathophenanthrolinedisulfonic acid disodium‑derived electrodes display fast and stable electrochromic performance and achieve a nearly quantitative Fe2+ incorporation rate[2].
