Biological Activity: Feruloyl esterase is a subclass of carboxylesterases that hydrolyzes the ester linkages between hydroxycinnamic acids and arabinoxylan/pectin polysaccharides in plant cell walls. Feruloyl esterase can hydrolyze ethyl ferulate to release ferulic acid, disrupt the structure of plant cell walls, promote fiber swelling and cellulase hydrolysis, and improve the separation efficiency of cellulose nanofibers. Meanwhile, by removing ferulic acid side chains, it synergizes with xylanase to efficiently hydrolyze xylan into monomers. Feruloyl esterase acts as a virulence factor for Verticillium dahliae VdFAE and Magnaporthe oryzae Fae1, facilitating host infection and colonization. Specifically, VdFAE binds to the NADPH domain of cotton GhDFR, promotes its degradation, inhibits flavonoid-mediated innate immunity, and induces cell death in Nicotiana benthamiana cells. Feruloyl esterase can be used in studies related to verticillium wilt and rice blast[1][2][3][4].
