NPD8716 is a sodium taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP) inhibitor with a human IC50 of 17.8 μM. NPD8716 interacts with NTCP, blocks the binding of HBV preS1 to NTCP, impairs NTCP-mediated bile acid uptake, inhibits NTCP transporter activity, and blocks the attachment of viruses to host hepatocytes. NPD8716 inhibits the entry of HBV and HDV into host cells. NPD8716 can be used in studies related to hepatitis B virus infection and hepatitis D virus infection .
