Biological Activity
The structure of PEG-Isocyanate comprises two key parts that work synergistically:
Isocyanate group: It can undergo a rapid addition reaction with molecules containing amino (-NH2) or hydroxyl (-OH) groups (such as proteins, polysaccharides, or polyurethane prepolymers) to form stable urethane or urea bonds.
PEG chain: Acting as a hydrophilic spacer, it forms a hydration layer on the particle surface, reducing non-specific adsorption and immune system recognition and clearance, thus prolonging the carrier's circulation time in vivo.
