Function
FOXP1 belongs to the forkhead box protein P (FOXP) family. FOXP1 is highly expressed in the nervous system and regulate molecular pathways required for proper brain development and function. FOXP1 regulates development of B cells. FOXP1 has protein-protein interaction with NFAT1 to enhance breast cancer cell motility. Furthermore, overexpression of FOXP1 inhibits proliferation and invasion in U251 glioma cells, while knockdown of FOXP1 promotes the development of lung carcinoma. FOXP1 is also known to interact with FOXP3 through NFAT-IL-2 promoter DNA complexes[1][2].

Expression
Tissue_specificity:Isomer 8 is specifically expressed in embryonic stem cells.
Induction:By androgen in an isoform-specific manner; expression of isoform 4 is greatly induced -
Subunit
Forms homodimers and heterodimers with FOXP2 and FOXP4 (PubMed:25027557). Dimerization is required for DNA-binding. Self-associates (PubMed:26647308).
