Description

Surfactants are amphiphilic molecules with a hydrophilic polar head and a hydrophobic hydrocarbon tail. They significantly reduce the surface tension of liquids or the oil-water interfacial tension and are widely used in industrial and biological fields for functions such as emulsification, solubilization, dispersion, wetting, and cleaning. Amine oxides also have the additional activity of mild antibacterial properties and inhibition of biofilm formation.
