Phaseolus vulgaris leucoagglutinin (PHA-L) is a lectin, that can be extracted from red kidney beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). Phaseolus vulgaris leucoagglutinin can be used as an anterograde axonal tracer in neuroanatomical research to study the morphology of neurons, axons, and terminal structures in the nervous system.

Description
In Vitro
Phaseolus vulgaris leucoagglutinin
brief protocol[1]
1.
Inject it into the brain of experimental animals by iontophoresis.
2.
Allow the animals to survive for 1-3 weeks.
3. Perform perfusion fixation and sectioning.
4.
Conduct visualization and observation using immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence.
Effect
: Neurons at the injection site are completely labeled, including the cell body, dendrites, and axonal projections. The labeling signal fills the entire neuronal processes and clearly reveals fine morphological structures, such as dendritic spines and axon terminal specializations throughout the axonal projection field.
