Background
The C-reactive protein (CRP), predicted to possess several functions such as cholesterol binding activity, complement component C1q complex binding activity, and low-density lipoprotein particle binding activity, is anticipated to play a role in diverse processes, including complement activation via the classical pathway, regulation of gene expression, and the regulation of superoxide anion generation. It is predicted to act upstream of vasoconstriction and is expected to be located in filopodia and growth cones, with activity in the extracellular space. This protein is expressed in embryos and the liver. The human ortholog of CRP is implicated in various diseases, including Kawasaki disease, autoimmune diseases, macular degeneration, middle cerebral artery infarction, and nephritis. Notably, CRP exhibits biased expression in tissues such as the liver during embryonic and adult stages.
Verified Bioactivity
Measured by its binding ability in a functional ELISA. Immobilized C-Reactive at 1 μg/mL(100 μL/well) can bind biotinylated Fc gamma RIIA. The ED50 for this effect is 0.8967 μg/mL.
