Description
E/Envelope Protein, Chikungunya virus (sf9, His) is the recombinant Virus-derived E/Envelope protein, expressed by Sf9 insect cells, with C-His labeled tag.
Background
E2/Envelope 2 is a Class II viral fusion protein. Its fusion activity remains inactive as long as E1 is bound to E2 in the mature virion. Following virus attachment to the target cell and endocytosis, acidification of the endosome triggers the dissociation of the E1/E2 heterodimer and concurrent trimerization of E1 subunits. This E1 trimer becomes fusion-active and facilitates the release of the viral nucleocapsid into the cytoplasm after fusion of the endosomal and viral membranes. Efficient fusion requires the presence of cholesterol and sphingolipid in the target membrane, with optimal fusion occurring at a ratio of approximately 1 cholesterol molecule per 2 phospholipid molecules, and specificity for sterols containing a 3-beta-hydroxyl group.
