The enterovirus 71 VP0 protein forms a 300 angstrom icosahedral capsid with the VP2 and VP3 proteins. Enterovirus 71 VP0 Protein (Sf9, His) is the recombinant virus-derived Enterovirus 71 VP0 protein, expressed by sf9 insect cells, with N-His labeled tag.
Background
The Enterovirus 71 VP0 protein contributes to the formation of an icosahedral capsid with pseudo T=3 symmetry, alongside capsid proteins VP2 and VP3. This capsid, measuring 300 Angstroms in diameter, comprises 60 copies of each capsid protein and encapsulates the viral positive strand RNA genome. Capsid protein VP1 primarily shapes the vertices of the capsid, and, in conjunction with VP2, engages with the host cell receptor SCARB2 to facilitate virion attachment to target host cells, leading to clathrin-dependent endocytosis. Following receptor binding, the capsid undergoes conformational changes, resulting in the externalization of the N-terminus of capsid protein VP1, which contains an amphipathic alpha-helix, and capsid protein VP4. Together, these components create a pore in the host membrane, enabling the translocation of the viral genome into the host cell cytoplasm.
