Background
PET hydrolase is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of cutin, a polyester forming the structural component of the plant cuticle (PubMed:25910960). It exhibits esterase activity toward p-nitrophenol-linked aliphatic esters (pNP-aliphatic esters) (PubMed:25910960). Notably, PET hydrolase is capable of degrading poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), the most abundant polyester plastic worldwide (PubMed:25910960).
