TFRC Protein, Cynomolgus (Biotinylated, HEK293, His) is the recombinant cynomolgus-derived TFRC protein, expressed by HEK293 , with N-His labeled tag.

Background

TFRC protein orchestrates the cellular uptake of iron through receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-occupied transferrin receptors into specialized endosomes. This process involves endosomal acidification, leading to the release of iron, followed by the recycling of the apotransferrin-receptor complex to the cell surface with a return to neutral pH, concomitant with the loss of apotransferrin affinity for its receptor. Essential for the development of erythrocytes and the nervous system, TFRC serves a critical role in iron homeostasis. Beyond its iron-related functions, TFRC acts as a lipid sensor, regulating mitochondrial fusion by modulating the activation of the JNK pathway. Furthermore, TFRC forms homodimers through disulfide linkages, adding another layer to its multifaceted involvement in cellular processes.
