Scrophularia ningpoensis extract is an orally effective hypoglycemic and antioxidant agent. Scrophularia ningpoensis extract reduces fasting blood glucose levels, increases plasma insulin levels, ameliorates impaired antioxidant status, scavenges free radicals, inhibits lipid peroxidation, and decreases elevated serum creatinine and serum urea levels. Scrophularia ningpoensis extract reduces the risk of developing diabetic complications. Scrophularia ningpoensis extract is applicable to diabetes-related research.

Decreased fasting blood glucose to 120.21 mg/dL, increased plasma insulin to 13.31 uU/mL, reduced serum creatinine to 0.86 mg/dL, reduced serum urea to 41.86 mg/dL, increased total protein to 7.89 g/dL, and reduced glycosylated hemoglobin to 8.26 Hb% at 200 mg/kg on day 30 (all p < 0.01 vs. diabetic controls).
Reduced blood glucose to 267.2 mg/dL at 120 minutes post-glucose administration during OGTT at 200 mg/kg (p < 0.05 vs. diabetic controls).
