Background

  • Function

Rtn-3 may be involved in membrane trafficking in the early secretory pathway. Inhibits BACE1 activity and amyloid precursor protein processing. May induce caspase-8 cascade and apoptosis. May favor BCL2 translocation to the mitochondria upon endoplasmic reticulum stress. Induces the formation of endoplasmic reticulum tubules. Also acts as an inflammation-resolving regulator by interacting with both TRIM25 and RIGI, subsequently impairing RIGI 'Lys-63'-linked polyubiquitination leading to IRF3 and NF-kappa-B inhibition; (Microbial infection) Plays a positive role in viral replication and pathogenesis of enteroviruses[1].

  • Subcellular Localization

Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein; Golgi apparatus membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein

  • Expression

Tissue_specificity:Isomer 3 is widely expressed, with the highest concentration in the brain, particularly enriched in the cell bodies of gray matter neurons (protein level) . Its concentration in the macula is three times that in the peripheral retina. Isomer 1 is highly expressed in the brain and poorly expressed in skeletal muscle. Isomer 2 is found only in melanoma.

Induction:By endoplasmic reticulum stress (at protein level) (PubMed:17191123) . Up-regulated and self-aggregates upon RNA viral infection (PubMed:34313226)
