Berberine-amide-m-PhBA chloride (Compound 8b) is a selective anti-breast cancer agent. Berberine-amide-m-PhBA chloride may inhibit the proteasome by interacting with the 20S proteasome β5 subunit. Berberine-amide-m-PhBA chloride can be used in the research of breast cancer.

Biological Activity
Berberine-amide-m-PhBA chloride inhibits proliferation of MDA-MB-468 human breast cancer cells with an IC50 of 13.4 ± 6.8 μM, shows no activity against MCF-7 or U251 cells, has low toxicity to HEK-293 normal cells, and exhibits a selectivity index of 1.59 for MDA-MB-468 cells over HEK-293 cells[1].
