D-Cysteic acid occupies a distinct substrate-binding site within the substrate transport pathway of AspT, preventing the binding of natural substrates to the transporter. D-Cysteic acid is formed via oxidation of L-cysteine with performic acid at 50°C for 15 min^[2].
