Herbicidal agent 17
Herbicidal agent 17 is a protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitor (IC50 = 9.55 nM in Nicotiana tabacum) that exerts its herbicidal activity by binding to the active site of PPO and blocking the conversion of protoporphyrinogen IX to protoporphyrin IX in chloroplasts. Herbicidal agent 17 can be used for post-emergence control studies of broadleaf weeds and grass weeds.

In Vitro
Herbicidal agent 17 (compound 9i) (2.34-37.5 g a.i./ha) exhibits excellent post-emergence herbicidal activity, providing 100% control of Zinnia elegans and Abutilon theophrasti at 2.34 g a.i./ha and 90% control of Echinochloa crus-galli at 9.38 g a.i./ha[1].
Herbicidal agent 17 exhibits potent inhibitory activity against NtPPO with an IC50 of 9.55 nM[1].
Herbicidal agent 17 binds stably to NtPPO with a binding energy of -8.9 kcal/mol, forming a unique halogen bond and an additional hydrogen bond with Val475 through its cyano group[1].
