Description

Polyethylene glycol monooctyl ether (n-Octyl-oligo-oxyethylene) is a nonionic detergent and separating agent. Polyethylene glycol monooctyl ether is commonly used as a reagent for solubilization and stabilization of membrane proteins, a mild detergent for cell lysis, a component of ELISA blocking agents, and an additive for protein refolding[1].

In Vitro

Polyethylene glycol monooctyl ether dissociates hydrophobic IpaC from the Shigella IpaC/IpgC chaperone-binding complex, maintains IpaC in its monomeric form, and preserves the membrane-binding and lytic properties of IpaC[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
