LECT1 Protein, Human (HEK293, Fc)

The LECT1 protein is a bifunctional growth regulator that stimulates the growth of cultured chondrocytes via FGF, thereby promoting cartilage expansion. Instead, it inhibits vascular endothelial cell growth, in contrast to its effect on endothelial proliferation. LECT1 Protein, Human (HEK293, Fc) is the recombinant human-derived LECT1 protein, expressed by HEK293 , with N-hFc labeled tag.

Description

The LECT1 protein is a bifunctional growth regulator that stimulates the growth of cultured chondrocytes via FGF, thereby promoting cartilage expansion. Instead, it inhibits vascular endothelial cell growth, in contrast to its effect on endothelial proliferation. LECT1 Protein, Human (HEK293, Fc) is the recombinant human-derived LECT1 protein, expressed by HEK293 , with N-hFc labeled tag.

Background

The LECT1 protein functions as a bifunctional growth regulator, exhibiting a dual role in cellular growth regulation. It stimulates the growth of cultured chondrocytes in the presence of basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF), suggesting a role in promoting the expansion of cartilage. Conversely, LECT1 inhibits the growth of cultured vascular endothelial cells, highlighting its contrasting effect on endothelial cell proliferation. This bifunctional nature may contribute to the coordinated regulation of cartilage growth and vascular invasion during endochondral bone development, where LECT1 is implicated in the rapid growth of cartilage preceding its replacement by bone. Moreover, LECT1 serves as an antiangiogenic factor in cardiac valves, suppressing neovascularization by inhibiting in vitro tube formation and the mobilization of endothelial cells. These multifaceted activities underscore LECT1's intricate involvement in the regulation of both chondrogenesis and angiogenesis processes.
