MKNK2 Protein, Human

MKNK2 is a serine/threonine protein kinase that centrally affects cellular processes by phosphorylating SFPQ/PSF, HNRNPA1, and EIF4E. MKNK2 sits at the intersection of environmental stress and cytokine signaling and regulates translation by enhancing the affinity of EIF4E for the mRNA cap, thereby affecting the translation machinery. MKNK2 Protein, Human is the recombinant human-derived MKNK2 protein, expressed by E. coli , with tag free.

Background

MKNK2, a serine/threonine-protein kinase, plays a pivotal role in cellular processes by phosphorylating SFPQ/PSF, HNRNPA1, and EIF4E. Positioned at the intersection of environmental stress and cytokine signaling, MKNK2 is implicated in the modulation of translation through the phosphorylation of EIF4E. This phosphorylation enhances EIF4E's affinity for the 7-methylguanosine-containing mRNA cap, thereby influencing the translational machinery. Moreover, MKNK2 is essential for mediating EIF4E shuttling from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. Notably, isoform 1 exhibits high basal kinase activity, while isoform 2 displays significantly lower kinase activity. MKNK2 serves as a key mediator in the suppressive effects of IFNgamma on hematopoiesis and acts as a negative regulator in signaling pathways governing arsenic trioxide As(2)O(3)-induced apoptosis and anti-leukemic responses. Additionally, MKNK2 is intricately involved in anti-apoptotic signaling triggered by serum withdrawal.
