Biological Activity

Description

NTCP Protein, Human (HEK293) is the recombinant human-derived NTCP, expressed by HEK293.

Background

NTCP is a major transporter of conjugated bile salts from plasma into hepatocytes, playing a key role in the enterohepatic circulation of bile salts, which are essential for the solubilization and absorption of dietary fat and fat-soluble vitamins. Its function is strictly dependent on the extracellular presence of sodium. NTCP exhibits broad substrate specificity, transporting various bile acids (e.g., taurocholate, cholate) as well as non-bile acid organic compounds (e.g., estrone sulfate). It works collaboratively with the ileal transporter (NTCP2), the organic solute transporter (OST), and the bile salt export pump (BSEP) to ensure efficient biological recycling of bile acids during enterohepatic circulation. by similar: Its function is strictly dependent on the extracellular presence of sodium; it works collaboratively with the ileal transporter (NTCP2), the organic solute transporter (OST), and the bile salt export pump (BSEP).
