Description

Thevefolic acid B is a plant secondary metabolite specific to the nectar of Cascabela thevetia. Thevefolic acid B can be used to identify mosquito host plants and control vector-borne diseases[1].

In Vivo

Thevefolic acid B (440 µM; oral; ad libitum daily; 3 days) is consistently detected in both male and female Cx. quinquefasciatus and An. coluzzii post-ingestion of dosed sucrose solutions, with mean detected weights ranging from 817.02 ng to 1743.06 ng per five-mosquito sample[1].
Thevefolic acid B (Natural concentration in C. thevetia nectar; oral; ad libitum; 12 hours) from C. thevetia floral nectar is detectable in An. coluzzii males and females in single- and multi-plant feeding assays, with mean detected weights ranging from 475.56 ng to 4743.96 ng per five-mosquito sample[1].
Thevefolic acid B (440 µM; oral; single replete meal) remains detectable in Cx. quinquefasciatus and An. coluzzii for up to 8 hours post-ingestion of a replete sucrose meal, with detection declining significantly thereafter[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: laboratory-reared strains (An. coluzzii colony established in 2012 and replenished with wild-caught F1 females; 7-10-day-old males and females)[1]
Dosage: 440 µM
Administration: oral; ad libitum daily; 3 days
Result: Detected average weight of 1743.06 ng in samples of five Cx. quinquefasciatus females.
Detected average weight of 817.02 ng in samples of five Cx. quinquefasciatus males.
Detected average weight of 1435.65 ng in samples of five An. coluzzii females.
Detected average weight of 1647.98 ng in samples of five An. coluzzii males.
Was detected in all female samples of both species and 4/5 male samples of both species.
Animal Model: laboratory-reared strains (An. coluzzii colony established in 2012 and replenished with wild-caught F1 females; adult males and females)[1]
Dosage: 440 µM
Administration: oral; single replete meal
Result: Was detected in all individuals of both species up to 4 hours post-ingestion, and in most individuals up to 8 hours post-ingestion.
Detection declined after 8 hours, with only intermittent detection in a limited number of individuals at 24 and 48 hours post-feeding.
Detected mean weight of 280 ng in female Cx. quinquefasciatus.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
