2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol
Based on 1 Customer Validation
2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol (2-MCPD) is a pharmaceutical intermediate. 2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol is a common glycerol-derived chemical intermediate and also a food processing contaminant. 2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol can cross the intestinal barrier model via paracellular diffusion. 2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol induces renal and testicular toxicity in animal models. 2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol can be used in research related to organic synthesis.

Biological Activity
2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol (2-MCPD) (10 µM-1 mM; 48 h) does not reduce the viability of human colon adenocarcinoma Caco-2 cells[1].
2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol (1-100 µM; 48 h) does not induce caspase 3/7 activity in human colon adenocarcinoma Caco-2 cells at concentrations of 10 µM or 100 µM, but significantly reduces this activity at a concentration of 1 µM[1].
2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol (100 µM; 0-50 h) can freely cross the differentiated human colon adenocarcinoma Caco-2 cell monolayer model via passive diffusion, reaches equilibrium within 12 h, and is not metabolized or absorbed by the cells[1].
2-Chloro-1,3-propanediol exists in both bound and free forms in various non-oil food matrices, and its detection rate and concentration vary by food category; the free form is only detectable in a small number of foods[2].
