Western blot analysis of extracts from Caco 2 (lane 1) and M-stomach (lane 2) and M-intestine (lane 3) using EpCAM antibody. Proteins were transferred to a PVDF membrane and blocked with 5% nonfat powdered milk in PBST for 2 hour at room temperature. The primary antibody (1/1000) and Loading control antibody (GAPDH, 1/3000) was diluted with 5% nonfat powdered milk in PBST at 4°C overnight. Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG-HRP Secondary Antibody (1/8,000) was incubated for 45min at room temperature.
Background
-
Function
May act as a physical homophilic interaction molecule between intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) at the mucosal epithelium for providing immunological barrier as a first line of defense against mucosal infection. Plays a role in embryonic stem cells proliferation and differentiation. Up-regulates the expression of FABP5, MYC and cyclins A and E
-
Subcellular Localization
Lateral cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein; Cell junction, tight junction
-
Expression
Tissue_specificity:This gene is highly and selectively expressed in undifferentiated embryonic stem cells (ESCs) , but not in differentiated ESCs. Once ESCs differentiate, its protein level rapidly declines. This gene is expressed on almost all epithelial cell membranes, but not on mesoderm or neural cell membranes. It has also been found on the surface of adenocarcinomas. -
Subunit
Monomer. Interacts with phosphorylated CLDN7
