Vpr Protein, HIV-1 group M subtype G (GST) is the recombinant virus-derived Vpr protein, expressed by E. coli, with N-GST tag.
Background
Vpr is a protein that may deplete host UNG protein and induce G2-M cell cycle arrest during virus replication. It targets specific host proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome through association with the cellular CUL4A-DDB1 E3 ligase complex by direct interaction with host VPRPB/DCAF-1. Cell cycle arrest reportedly occurs within hours of infection and is not blocked by antiviral agents, suggesting initiation by virion-carried Vpr. Additionally, Vpr induces apoptosis in a cell cycle-dependent manner, indicating mechanistic linkage between these effects. Detected in AIDS patient serum and cerebrospinal fluid, Vpr may also induce bystander cell death.
