Tetrazolium Red (2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazolium chloride; TTC) is a not brain-penetrant, colorless, water-soluble dye that is reduced by mitochondrial enzymes to a deep red, water-insoluble compound (formazan) mainly in the mitochondria of living cells. Tetrazolium Red is used to observe the activity of dehydrogenase, and it turns colorless to red when exposed to hydrogen. Tetrazolium Red distinguishes between surviving and infarcted brain tissue after stroke. Tetrazolium Red has been used to stain heart tissue to measure the extent of acute lesions and also used to stain brain tissue to detect the size of the infarcted area. The absorption wavelength of Tetrazolium Red is 570 nm .

NRL-1049 (BA-1049 (free base)) is an orally available and selective ROCK2 inhibitor with IC50 values of 0.59 µM for ROCK2 and 26 µM for ROCK1, respectively. NRL-1049 modulates ROCK signaling, preserves blood-brain barrier integrity, reduces edema, seizures and hemorrhage, and alleviates cerebral cavernous malformation lesion burden. NRL-1049 can be used for the study of acute brain injury, ischemic stroke, and cerebral cavernous malformations .

NS3956 is a blood-brain barrier-permeable human α4β2-nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonist (Ki = 0.36 nM). NS3956 induces dopamine release, produces analgesic effects, modulates rotational behavior in 6-OHDA-lesioned rats, and potentiates the effects of SSRI/SNRI in the forced swim test in mice. NS3956 can be used in research related to depression, Parkinson's disease, and acute pain .
