  3. Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase, Streptomyces sp.

Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase, Streptomyces sp. is a sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase derived from the genus Streptomyces, which cleaves the phosphodiester bond of sphingomyelin. Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase, Streptomyces sp. catalyzes the hydrolysis of sphingomyelin in micelles, synthetic substrates, erythrocyte ghost membranes and liposomes, as well as the hydrolysis of the substrate HNP. In the presence of Mg2+ or Mn2+ , Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase, Streptomyces sp. induces hemolysis of bovine erythrocytes through the hydrolysis of membrane sphingomyelin.

Description

Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase, Streptomyces sp. is a sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase derived from the genus Streptomyces, which cleaves the phosphodiester bond of sphingomyelin. Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase, Streptomyces sp. catalyzes the hydrolysis of sphingomyelin in micelles, synthetic substrates, erythrocyte ghost membranes and liposomes, as well as the hydrolysis of the substrate HNP. In the presence of Mg2+ or Mn2+ , Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase, Streptomyces sp. induces hemolysis of bovine erythrocytes through the hydrolysis of membrane sphingomyelin[1][2].

In Vitro

Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase from *Streptomyces* sp. (15 munits enzyme; 10 min) induces 80%-100% hemolysis and complete SM hydrolysis in intact bovine erythrocytes[2].
Sphingomyelin phosphodiesterase from *Streptomyces* sp. exhibits hydrolytic activity against HNP, with an activity of 0.0026 μmol/min·units[2].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
