Magnesium chloride anhydrous, suitable for insect cell culture is a component of Hunter's Thrips medium, which supports the in vitro culture of western flower thrip embryonic cells, and promotes the adhesion of tissue fragments/cells as well as the growth of fibroblast-like and epithelial-like cells.

Magnesium chloride anhydrous, suitable for insect cell culture (0.5341 g/liter; up to 7 months) in a custom medium supports attachment, fibroblast-like cell outgrowth within 24-48 hours, epithelial-like monolayer formation by 10-20 days, and maintenance of primary Frankliniella occidentalis embryonic cell cultures for up to 7 months[1].
