    Cadherin-13 proteins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecules that exhibit a preference for homophilic interactions, fostering connections between neighboring cells and potentially playing a role in cell type sorting. These proteins may act as negative regulators of neural cell growth. In contrast to classical cadherins, the homodimerization of Cadherin-13 in trans does not occur through the cadherin EC1 domain strand-swapping mechanism.
