Background

Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 8 (CCL8), also known as MCP-2, was first identified in human osteosarcoma cells, and functions in a wide variety of inflammatory cells as a chemotactic factor. CCL8 contributes to the dissemination of breast cancer, and promotes the migration and invasion of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. On the other hand, it has also been reported that CCL8 inhibits growth of cervical carcinoma tumors and exhibits an antitumor metastatic effect in melanoma. CCL8 dramatically activates ERK1/2 phosphorylation in glioblastoma cells, and blocking TAM-secreted CCL8 by neutralized antibody significantly decreases invasion of glioma cells[1].
