Description

(Z)-7-Tetradecen-2-one acts as a species-specific nematicide. (Z)-7-Tetradecen-2-one induces terminal embryogenesis, morphological abnormalities, irreversible developmental arrest and increases eggshell permeability in *Pristionchus pacificus* embryos. (Z)-7-Tetradecen-2-one exerts olfactory attraction toward *Pristionchus pacificus*. (Z)-7-Tetradecen-2-one can be used to study the symbiotic relationship between hosts and nematodes[1][2].

In Vitro

(Z)-7-tetradecen-2-one (0.5% volatile, 10 μL; 2-4 h) induces irreversible terminal embryonic development in 100% of early embryos of *Pristionchus pacificus* PS312. The minimum lethal exposure duration is 4 h for ex utero embryos at 0-4 h, and 3 h for ex utero embryos at 4-8 h, ultimately leading to abnormal embryonic morphology, partial tissue differentiation, and complete developmental arrest[1].
(Z)-7-tetradecen-2-one (0.5% volatility; 4 h) increases eggshell permeability in embryos of *Pristionchus pacificus* PS312, PS1843 and RS5186. In sensitive strains, 65% to 90% of embryos exhibit FM4-64 staining of embryonic tissues after exposure, which correlates with irreversible developmental arrest[1].
(Z)-7-tetradecen-2-one (0.5% volatile; 4 h) induces 100% irreversible developmental arrest in the circum-Pacific strain of *Pristionchus pacificus*, whereas 40%-60% developmental arrest occurs in the RS5278 and RS5419 strains, with no effect on *Caenorhabditis elegans* N2 embryos[1].
(Z)-7-Tetradecen-2-one (0.1-10% dilution; 9-15 h) exhibits strong attractiveness to *Pristionchus pacificus*, while it shows repellent effects or no impact on other tested nematode species[2].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
