Definition:

Influenza is typically a self-limiting upper respiratory disease caused by three types of influenza viruses: influenza A, B, and C. Influenza A and B viruses cause highly contagious diseases whereas influenza C virus causes only mild upper respiratory tract illness. Influenza A virus is responsible for annual epidemics in humans with high mortality rates.
