17-Hydroxystearic acid from hydrogenated and natural sources can be oxidized into 17-oxostearic acid. It can also be obtained by hydrolyzing methylated 17-hydroxyoctadecanoic acid β-sophoroside[1].
17-Hydroxystearic acid (50 μg; up to 15 min) is oxidized to 17-ketostearic acid by the soluble fraction of rat liver homogenate 2.2 times faster for the L-enantiomer than the D-enantiomer[2].
17-Hydroxystearic acid (50 μg; up to 15 min) is oxidized to 17-ketostearic acid by the soluble fraction of guinea pig liver homogenate 6 times faster for the L-enantiomer than the D-enantiomer[2].
17-Hydroxystearic acid (50 μg; up to 15 min) is oxidized to 17-ketostearic acid by the microsomal fraction of rat liver homogenate 1.4 times faster for the D-enantiomer than the L-enantiomer[2].
17-Hydroxystearic acid (50-200 μg) is produced via stereospecific reduction of 17-ketostearic acid by the soluble fraction of rat liver homogenate[2].
