Classical complement pathway (CCP)

Definition:

Classical complement pathway (CCP) is one of the recognition pathways that activate the complement system. CCP can be activated when the C1 complex (composed of C1q, C1r2, and C1s2) binds to apoptotic cells, neuronal blebs, fAβ, hyperphosphorylated tau, or antigen-antibody complexes. The activation leads to sequential enzyme activation, protein cleavage, and induces protein conformational changes.
