PC-3

Definition:

PC-3 is a human epithelial prostate carcinoma cell line established from a poorly differentiated prostatic adenocarcinoma metastatic to bone and exhibits epithelial, poorly differentiated morphology[1]. The cells are aneuploid, grow without anchorage, form tumors in nude mice, show reduced serum dependence, and do not respond to androgens, glucocorticoids, epidermal growth factor, or fibroblast growth factor[1]. PC-3 has been used to model androgen-independent prostate cancer, examine apoptosis and cell-cycle responses to candidate compounds, and study osteolytic interactions after intratibial implantation, including pathways involving osteoprotegerin, RANK ligand, parathyroid hormone-related protein, and endothelin-1[2][3].
