Definition:

Poly(3-hydroxyoctanoate) depolymerase is the medium-chain-PHA-degrading enzyme. It hydrolyzes poly{oxycarbonyl[(R)-2-pentylethylene]} to oligomers, with the dimer as main prolonged-incubation product; it also hydrolyzes other C6-C12 medium-chain PHA polyesters and copolymers, and p-nitrophenyl fatty-acid esters, but not short-chain PHB/PHV. Expected in Bacteria and Eukaryota.
