Biological Activity
Collagenase (Type A, animal free) is a proteolytic enzyme that exerts its hydrolytic activity by digesting the collagen bonds that make up Descemet's membrane, releasing corneal endothelial cells (CECs) without damaging cell junctions. Collagenase can be used in research related to corneal endothelial cell isolation and culture, providing sufficient quantities of highly active functional cells for cell therapy and tissue engineering of corneal endothelial diseases. Collagenase improves cell survival rate and morphological stability, optimizing the initial steps of in vitro expansion of CECs[1].
